American Household photovoltaic leader Sunrun acquired a controlling stake in its biggest rival Vivint Solar for US$3.2 billion. The acquisition is the second largest acquisition in the history of household photovoltaics.

The U.S. residential photovoltaic rental market continues to integrate. After Sunrun's acquisition of Vivint Solar is completed, Sunrun will become the only company engaged in the photovoltaic leasing market among the four largest household photovoltaic giants in the United States.

Although the scale of the acquisition is large, its impact on the US residential solar market is relatively small. More and more users choose to purchase solar systems directly, and Sunrun is not actively engaged in the sales of photovoltaic power generation systems, so most residential photovoltaic installation companies will not be affected.

The investment tax credit policy that promotes the growth of the photovoltaic leasing sector is now nearing completion, and Sunrun must break through the siege with an aggressive growth plan under the impact of the epidemic. Sunrun has stepped up its sales promotion efforts and teamed up with Tesla to develop energy storage batteries, and now it has acquired its market rival Vivint Solar
